Archimedes of Syracuse[a] (/ ˌɑːrkɪˈmiːdiːz / AR-kih-MEE-deez; c. 287 – c. 212 BC) was an Ancient Greek mathematician, physicist, engineer, astronomer, and inventor from the city of Syracuse in Sicily.
