In the 8th century BCE, King Piye from the Kingdom of Kush in today’s Sudan rose to reunite a divided Egypt. From his capital at Napata, he conquered rival rulers and founded Egypt’s 25th Dynasty, known as the Kushite Dynasty. Under Piye and his successors, Egypt flourished in art, architecture, and faith rooted in African traditions. Their rule proved that Sudan’s ancient civilization was not Egypt’s shadow but its equal.
